Explore Relax Connect

There’s nothing quite like spending time outdoors during the beautiful Michigan summer—and Lenawee County is home to some incredible parks that offer the perfect setting to get out, get moving, or simply soak up some sunshine.

Whether you're looking for a quiet walking trail, a shady spot to read a book, or a place to catch up with friends, the County parks have something for everyone. And for older adults, these green spaces are more than just pretty places—they’re powerful tools for staying active, reducing stress, and connecting with others.

Recreation at Your Own Pace

From strolling paved paths to casting a fishing line or enjoying a light picnic lunch, Lenawee County parks offer activities for a wide range of mobility and energy levels. Daily movement—even a short walk—can improve balance, heart health, and mood. The best part? You set the pace.

Find Your Relaxation Zone

Looking for a break from the hustle and bustle? The parks offer peaceful environments to unwind, reflect, or practice mindfulness. Bring a journal, breathe in the fresh air, and let nature do its magic.

Socialize Under the Trees

Parks are also a great place to meet up with family and friends. Pack a deck of cards or a snack to share and enjoy a visit under the picnic shelters. You might also run into others from the community out enjoying the same idea!

Make It a Habit

This August, we encourage you to explore one of the Lenawee County parks—like Gerber Hill, Medina, Ramsdell, Iron Lake, or Bicentennial. Try something new, or return to an old favorite. You don’t need a gym membership or special equipment—just a comfy pair of shoes and a willingness to enjoy the day.

Lenawee County offers a variety of parks perfect for recreation, relaxation, and socializing. Here’s a closer look at each one:

Bicentennial Park (78 Acres)
Located at 5543 Tipton Hwy in Tipton, this park features hiking trails winding through prairie grass fields and virgin timber woods. Amenities include a soccer field, volleyball court, playground, and picnic shelters with grills and hand-pumped water stations. A lovely 1.2-mile easy loop trail invites walkers, birdwatchers, or those just seeking quiet time surrounded by nature.

Great for: nature walks, playground outings with grandchildren, and shaded picnics.

Gerber Hill Park (40 Acres)
At 14360 Carroll Rd, Blissfield, this former glacier-carved park includes wooded trails with tree identification markers, a fishing dock, pond, and diverse recreation fields: soccer, baseball, volleyball, basketball, horseshoes, and a playground. Picnic shelters, grills, and restrooms are available all year. This summer also saw the installation of a musical playground and a storywalk with a ribbon cutting scheduled at the end of the summer.

Great for: multi-generational fun—play, fish, learn about nature, and enjoy new music features together.

Iron Lake Park (Less than 1 Acre)
Found off the 12000 block of Egan Hwy in Brooklyn, this compact park provides access to Iron Lake via a public boat launch and includes a picnic table by the water.

Great for: a morning of fishing or a scenic lakeside picnic—even a mellow boat outing.

Medina Park (40 Acres)
Nestled on Warrick Rd near Medina, this park highlights include picnic areas, a ball field, horseshoe pit, and playground. The centerpiece is a majestic hollow sycamore tree alongside the meandering Bean Creek, perfect for natural exploration.

Great for: creekside reflection, casual play, and scenic family gatherings.

Ramsdell Park (180 Acres)
19657 Glen Hill Hwy, Clayton. This expansive park features rolling hills, engineered wetlands, ponds, prairie grassland, and roughly 5 miles of trails. There's a pavilion with a fireplace, grills, tables, porta-john, making it ideal for cross-country skiing, hiking, and picnicking year-round.

Great for: longer walks, wildlife watching, winter outings, or club hikes.

Taylor Road Park (80 Acres)
Located at Taylor Rd & Carson Hwy in Franklin Township, this undeveloped conservation-focused park centers on an engineered flood pond and wildlife habitats, maintained in cooperation with the DNR.

Great for: quiet wildlife observation, peaceful solitude, and nature photography.

Tips for Visiting

When heading out to enjoy one of Lenawee County’s parks, it’s a good idea to wear comfortable footwear, as the terrain can range from grassy trails to wooded paths. Don’t forget to bring along essentials like water, sunscreen, a hat, and anything you might need for your favorite activity—whether that’s fishing gear, a camera, binoculars, or a good book. And if you’re hoping to enjoy a picnic with family or friends, several parks offer shelters that are free to use and can be reserved by calling the Parks Commission at 517-264-4738 or visiting our website.
