Let’s be honest—if women were paid for every hat we wear in a day, we’d all be billionaires by now. Chef, chauffeur, therapist, nurse, scheduler, laundry ninja... the list goes on. But here's the deal: even superheroes need checkups. And that’s why May—National Women’s Health Month—is the perfect time to remind you that taking care of YOU isn’t selfish. It’s smart.
At the Lenawee County Health Department, we’re cheering you on with real support for your real life. From screenings to support, we’re here to help you prioritize your health without needing to pencil it in between grocery runs, back-to-back meetings, and refereeing who gets the last granola bar.
Breast and Cervical Cancer Control Navigation Program (BCCCNP)
Think of this as your backstage pass to better health. If you're a woman 40 or older and meet certain income and insurance requirements, you could qualify for free or low-cost screenings for breast and cervical cancer—yes, that means mammograms and Pap tests without the surprise billing nightmares.
Because here’s the truth: catching cancer early gives you more options, better outcomes, and a lot more peace of mind. And trust us, your peace of mind is worth way more than that expired coupon in your purse.
WISEWOMAN Program: Because Your Heart Deserves a Spa Day Too
Enrolled in BCCCNP? Great news—you may also be eligible for WISEWOMAN, a program that focuses on your heart health and diabetes prevention. Translation: free screenings and lifestyle support to help you reduce your risk and boost your energy.
We’ll help you get a better handle on things like blood pressure, cholesterol, and glucose—without a lecture or a side of guilt. It’s all about realistic, doable changes that fit your life (yes, even if you’re someone who considers reheated coffee a food group).
Reproductive Health & Preventive Services
We’re also here for the everyday stuff that helps you stay healthy year-round. From “Am I pregnant?” to “What shots am I due for?”—we’ve got you. Services include:
- Pregnancy testing and counseling (because sometimes it’s nice to get answers without googling at 2 AM)
- Immunizations to keep you protected, whether it’s flu season or just because adulting includes flu shots
- STI & HIV testing and counseling—confidential, non-judgmental, and way easier than you think (no awkward vibes—we’re professionals)
- Reproductive health services that keep you informed and in control of your choices
All services are provided with compassion, confidentiality, and zero judgment (promise).
Real Talk: You Can’t Be Everything to Everyone if You’re Running on Empty
We know how easy it is to put your own health last. But putting off that appointment, skipping the screening, or ignoring that nagging concern doesn’t make you stronger—it just makes things harder in the long run.
So this Women’s Health Month, give yourself permission to put YOU first. Make the call. Get the screening. Ask the questions. Take the nap, even.
Because when you prioritize your health, you’re not just helping yourself—you’re investing in a stronger, healthier future for your family, your community, and your superhuman self.
