Non-Medical Immunization Exemption (Waiver) Education

Michigan Public Health Law requires that all infants and children have certain vaccinations or a valid exemption (waiver) before entering public or private school or licensed childcare settings. These requirements exist to prevent the spread of disease and to prevent injury or death in the community.

Michigan parents/guardians who opt not to fully vaccinate their children before they enter school or childcare must receive education and request a non-medical exemption (waiver) from their local public health department.

Follow the process below to request a non-medical exemption (waiver) from Lenawee County Health Department (LCHD).

Non-Medical Exemption (Waiver) Process

You must be the Parent or Legal Guardian of the child or children who will be receiving a non-medial exemption. Parents or guardians who choose not to fully vaccinate must complete an education session through their local health department before obtaining a non-medical exemption. By completing the online education modules before your appointment, you can save time and expedite the process.

    1. Go to MIWAIV to begin your non-medical exemption education.
    2. Complete all MiWAIV dashboard requirements.
    3. Call 517-264-5226 (option 2) to schedule your in-person appointment for a signature.
      1. You must be the legal parent or guardian and have a valid ID
      2. Your exemption is NOT complete without an in-person signature

If you have difficulty viewing or completing the virtual education, contact LCHD for an in-person appointment at 517-264-5226 (option 2).
