Lenawee County is excited to announce the grand opening of a new, fully accessible musical playground and StoryWalk at Gerber Hill Park, located in Blissfield. A ribbon cutting ceremony will take place on Monday, August 18, 2025, at 5:00 PM to celebrate the completion of this engaging and inclusive community feature.
The project was made possible through a $75,000 grant from the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) as part of its MI Neighborhood 2.0 program. In addition, the StoryWalk was developed in collaboration with Lenawee Great Start, which secured funding from the Michigan Department of Lifelong Education, Advancement, and Potential.
The new musical playground includes outdoor instruments designed for all ages and abilities to enjoy, encouraging creativity, sensory engagement, and shared experiences in nature. Integrated along the path is a StoryWalk, a Lenawee Great Start literacy-boosting installation that displays an illustrated children’s book page by page along a walking route. Families are encouraged to read, explore, and interact as they move from panel to panel, with prompts for fun, physical activities tied to the story.

“The musical playground and StoryWalk together offer a dynamic space where families can connect through movement, music, and reading,” said Lenawee County Administrator Kim Murphy. “This project enhances Gerber Hill Park as a place where people of all ages and abilities can come together to learn, play, and grow.”
This innovative addition is part of Lenawee County’s ongoing efforts to promote inclusive recreation, early literacy, and community wellness by enhancing public spaces across the county.
Community members are encouraged to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony and experience the harmony of music, movement, and storytelling for themselves.
